57 Books

by Mr Fables (Founder of The Encouragement Manifesto)

It might seem odd that someone who loves words and who luxuriates in a good book should need encouragement to read more

And, yet, there is always more to read … recommendations abound. Breadcrumb trails stretch out in every direction (though the librarian is not going to be happy sweeping them up when everyone else has wandered off to see where they lead). There is never a shortage of titles on the ‘to be read’ pile; inevitably we spot a publication date reminding us to pre-order the next must-read.

Time to read more books

A writer only begins a book. A reader finishes it.
— Samuel Johnson

Our avid reader (Mr Fables) turns 57 mid-year

Perhaps the challenge should reflect that milestone … let’s say 57 Books in the calendar year which includes the 57th birthday. One a week and a few extras for luck.

We’ll share it on social media so there has to be a hashtag … #57Books

There’ll be a review of each book, gently growing into a curated list of reading suggestions … a Twitter thread building throughout 2022, and a story unfolding over on Insta (@encouragementfarm)

An encouragement, perhaps, for other keen readers to add to their own ‘to be read’ pile; and a gentle encouragement to add your own recommendations to the #57Books ‘must read’ list; ripples flowing out from a ‘pebble in the pond’.
